Karate Do is owned and operated by Sensei Patricia Saunders, a
sandan black belt in Uechi-Ryi Karate.
“Karate has changed my attitude, confidence, level of focus, and
concentration”
Sensei Saunders is a Black Belt instructor certified by International Uechi-Ryu Karate Federation (IUKF) and the American Council on the Martial
Arts (ACMA). She has been teaching karate classes since 1998 and is also a
NAPMA certified cardio karate instructor.
Prior to the Karate Do was assistant instructor
in Sensei Steve DiOrio's Westwood Program.
Sensei Saunders has studied Uechi-Ryu karate with a variety of teachers
including George Mattson who is currently the highest ranking Uechi-Ryu
black belt (9th degree) in the united states and the man who first
introduced Uechi-Ryu to the United States. In addition to Uechi-Ryu, she has
studied other forms of martial arts including Tae Kwon Do and is trained as
a RAD instructor. Sensei Saunders trained as a scholarship gymnast while in
college which has helped provide a foundation for her later training in
karate.
In addition to teaching karate classes, Sensei Saunders is a trained
competition official and has judged a variety of tournaments including the
New England Open, the Montessori Open, the New England Junior Open, the Mass
Challenge, and many others. Before her judging activities Sensei Saunders
had a very successful career competing herself. She took home the first
place trophy for Kyu Kumite in the New England Open two years running as
well as securing a trophy for Kata competition.
The Dojo (Training Hall): The 2500 square foot facility
has a 1200 square foot fully padded exercise floor with 50 feet of
mirrors along two walls and 20 feet of wall mounted striking pads.
In addition to the office, there are two changing rooms, and a large
combination stretching, viewing and snack area. The dojo is air
